Why is it that people are so drawn to horses? We really can’t help it! If you are a teen girl, the draw is even stronger. I think it’s that big heart of the horse. The horse has a large electro-magnetic field. That’s the scientifically measurable energy field that surrounds any living creature. Human beings have an electro-magnetic field too. You have felt this in other people. Think about a person that you just love to be around. It’s their energy, right? They are loving or kind or happy and it feels good to be around them.
When horses are just standing around, hanging out, eating or being groomed, they are very often in a state of coherence. Remember, coherence means a balance between the heart and the brain. When a horse is in a state of balance, their electro-magnetic field is balanced and flowing. And because the horse is big, their energy field is big. It’s balanced and big, and when we come into contact with it, we feel it. In fact the energy field of the horse can affect the energy field of the human being, bringing us into a more balanced state. Simply being in the presence of a horse, can cause a person to feel more calm and peaceful. There are scientific studies that demonstrate the way that the electro-magnetic field of the horse impacts the electro-magnetic field of the human being. They are natural healers!
Horses are aware of the body language of a human being who is approaching them, but they don’t judge it. The horse may sense anger or fear in a person, and they may choose to walk away from that person. It doesn’t mean that the horse dislikes the person, it only means that the energy of the person is not that attractive to the horse. They’re not analyzing it, they are simply responding in a natural way. When a horse walks the other way, the person can take a moment to become aware of herself. What am I feeling? What does my body language say? Am I stressed out?
The actions of the horse help us to become more aware of ourselves. Then we have the opportunity to self-regulate; to change our emotional state by breathing into our hearts. The more we practice this, the more we teach our bodies what it feels like to be balanced and calm. The body will remember! The more calm we are, the less we are walking around stressed out, and the happier we become! Healing is happening and the horse is helping, just by being a horse!
